“IMU.EXE” is a utility for working with the diskette image files used by the “XF25” Atari emulator for MS/DOS and by the “atari800” emulator for AmigaDOS. It can display the directory of a diskette image file, insert a file into a diskette image file, extract a file from a diskette image file, delete a file from a diskette image file or combine two ‘.XFD’ image files into one ‘.ATR’ image file.

“IMU” is an AmigaDOS executable.

To display the directory of a diskette image file, enter ‘IMU’ or ‘IMU filename’, where “filename” is the name of the diskette image file WITHOUT the ‘.XFD’ or ‘.ATR’ file extension. If you omit the name of the diskette image file, you will be prompted for it.

To extract a file from a diskette image file, enter ‘IMU filename -x mfn’, where “filename” is the name of the diskette image file WITHOUT the ‘.XFD’ or ‘.ATR’ file extension and “mfn” is the name of a file contained in the diskette image file. To convert Atari ‘EOL’ characters to line feed characters, use ‘-xt’ instead of ‘-x’.

To insert a file into a diskette image file, enter ‘IMU filename -i mfn’, where “filename” is the name of the diskette image file WITHOUT the ‘.XFD’ or ‘.ATR’ file extension and “mfn” is the name of a file which exists in the current directory and is to be inserted into the diskette image file. To convert line feed characters to Atari ‘EOL’ characters, use ‘-it’ instead of ‘-i’. The current MS/DOS version should not transfer the carriage return half of the MS/DOS end of line pair, but it does. This will corrected in a future version of this utility.

To delete a file from within a diskette image file, enter ‘IMU filename -d mfn’, where “filename” is the name of the diskette image file WITHOUT the ‘.XFD’ or ‘.ATR’ file extension and “mfn” is the name of a file which exists in, and is to be deleted from within the diskette image file.

To combine two ‘.XFD’ files, wait for a future version of “IMU”.

P. S. If you have both an MS/DOS system and an Amiga, try to find “PC2Am308.lha”. It’s a slick package that allows you to use an MS/DOS system as a slave to an Amiga. As a matter of fact, this very file was updated by the Amiga “Memacs” text editor while the file was residing on an MS/DOS hard drive.
